Morro Bay's most famous landmark is Morro Rock. Other attractions include the lagoon and natural bay habitat. Morro Bay offers sailing, fishing, hiking, and bird watching. Morro Bay State Park has a colorful marina and an 18-hole golf course. A number of tourist attractions are found along the shoreline and the streets closest to it, especially the Embarcadero. These include a good range of restaurants and a number of parks. The combination of tourist-oriented businesses with a working fishing port and the dominant presence of Morro Rock makes an attractive waterfront.

Morro Bay has moderate weather. During summer days the area is 30 degrees cooler during than inland areas. The water here is cooler than in Southern California. Surfers generally wear wetsuits.
