The City of Grover Beach covers 2.25 square miles and is located along the beautiful Central Coast of California, 92 miles north of Santa Barbara and 150 miles south of Monterey. Climate
Grover Beach residents and visitors enjoy a mild, mediterranean climate with cool summers and an average rainfall of 20 inches. Year-round recreational opportunities are offered in and around Grover Beach such as hiking on the dunes, fishing, clamming, golfing, horseback riding, wine tasting, and off-road vehicle riding.
The beach entrance to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area is located just off Highway 1 at the end of West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach (just one block from the Amtrak Station). Enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline with a drive along white sand dunes, or take a walk on the Beach Boardwalk that meanders through the dunes and Monarch Butterfly Preserve between Grover Beach and Pismo Beach. Or enjoy the nine-hole golf course, open seven days week from sunrise to sunset, also located at the beach entrance at the end of West Grand Avenue.
Visitor Information
Activities such as dune hiking, fishing, clamming, golfing, horseback riding, wine tasting and off-road vehicle riding are just some of the activities offered in and around Grover Beach. The beach and sand dune recreation area attracts over 1 million visitors a year and provides outstanding recreation opportunities for off-highway enthusiasts.
Every winter from November through February, thousands of Monarch butterflies may be found in a grove of eucalyptus trees at the Pismo State Beach Butterfly Grove, just half a mile north of the Grover Beach Train Station and adjacent to one segment of the Beach Boardwalk. This is one of the largest over wintering sites for these butterflies in the United States. Park docents staff the grove from November through February from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with talks provided at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Events
Grover Beach activities and festivals attract the entire family, and community parks are also available for picnics and barbeques: The City hosts a Free Summer Concert Series at the Ramona Garden Park each year from June - September. The City of Grover Beach and Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce host the Stone Soup Ethnic Music Faire each summer at the Ramona Garden Park.
This event features a 5K / 10K Dune Run Run, and food and craft booths with homemade items and ethnic foods fill Ramona Garden Park and spill out onto the street, along with the sounds of Latin, African, Australian, Scottish, jazz and country-western music. Dancing in the streets is encouraged!
